Dundee BID – The Story so Far

A new Dundee Business Improvement District (BID) has been proposed in response to an ongoing conversation around grappling with the issues impacting upon businesses in the centre of Dundee.  With seed funding secured to scope out the BID, develop a business plan, and bring it to ballot in March, Dundee BID will launch in the summer of 2026 if the outcome of the ballot is successful.

What is a BID?

A BID allows businesses to work collectively to drive their own agenda tackling issues that are important to them and, through a pro-rata levy, raise funds to manage and deliver key projects to improve the city centre.  Currently, Dundee is the only city in Scotland without a BID, however, in conversations with local businesses from retail, hospitality, and other sectors, there is already strong support for Dundee BID.

Indeed, the process of engaging with businesses to hear their concerns and aspirations for Dundee City Centre is well underway and this inform how the BID will look in terms of the number and nature of the businesses which will be part of the BID, the likely income generated and the priorities of those who make up the BID, with the final offering being set out in the business plan.

Our Objectives

Dundee BID’s objective is to elevate the offering in the city centre, making it an outstanding destination for shopping, work, tourism, and entertainment for both locals and visitors alike and, by pooling resources – each business paying a very small percentage of their rateable value, according to their size – there is the potential to raise £2million over 5 years to do just this.

Indeed, this substantial investment raised by businesses will be one of the most significant of its kind and will positively impact the city’s offering, potentially boosting footfall.

How to get Involved

All businesses within Dundee City Centre are encouraged to be a part of this conversation to shape Dundee BID and can do so by completing the Dundee BID survey and by signing up for updates.
